It Takes Class – Skald Barbarian

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Class archetypes are hideously underutilized. They are a powerful tool to tailor classes to specific playstyles, or to give them powerful abilities while making those abilities inaccessible to other classes that may be able to exploit them though multiclass archetypes.

With this in mind, welcome to It Takes Class, wherein I bring you class archetypes to do anything from granting classes more flexibility to trading that flexibility to specialize greater than any have before.

This time, we look at the barbarian. “Barbarian?” I hear you ask, “But I thought skalds were bards!” Right you are, they usually are! I decided to take a look at the archetype from a different direction, looking at how to inject some of the bard into the barbarian, instead of injecting the barbarian into the bard.

It Takes Class – Skald includes…

  • Warsinging replaces rage as your core mechanic. Surround yourself with an aura that bolsters you and your allies alike as you recite myths and legends.

  • Ominous familiars to caw fear into the bones of your enemies, and a new specific familiar, the runecarved, a familiar who lives on your skin.

  • Options to gain an animal companion to make war at your side, and special feats that let you use them to aid your allie.

  • 3 new backgrounds for those who want to be the skaldiest skalds who ever skalded.

  • Over 50 new feats, including:

  • 13 sagas, each changing the effect of your Warsong. Use the damage-increasing Saga of the Rough Beast, the Saga of , or even the Saga of Lastwall that makes your allies much more powerful when facing undead!

  • 10 stanza actions and activities, new actions that you can take once per round, allowing you to act in cooperation with your allies or increase the effectiveness of your sagas on an ally.

  • Almost 10 new skill feats, including 6 building on a skill action unique to the skald: flyting! Insult your foes so harshly that they find it harder to focus on attacking your allies.

It would be fantastic if this book had Foundry support, which is part of what has made me hesitant to purchase it. I can't say I care about Pathbuilder since most people who use Foundry can just let their players make their builds in Foundry.

I noticed that several sections of the PDF aren't 100% finished. They say [Fluff] in places where there is supposed to be flavor text.

Other than that it seems really good! I'll be sure to leave a good review tomorrow.
Do you plan on adding Foundry and Pathbuilder support?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
