100 Hooks and Rumours to Hear in or About Magnimar

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This supplement has 100 rumours that characters could hear related to Magnimar, both within and without the city. Whether or not any particular rumour is true is up to the GameMaster. They could range from deliberate misinformation being spread to cause trouble to evidence of conspiracies and dangers. The rumours can be heard when asking for around for information and can be used as background colour or potential adventure hooks.

This PDF supports Adobe layers and the page backgrounds and images can be disabled to make printing easier.

Here are some sample results:

  • Red Kestrel Imports trades between six different nations and has several ships in its fleet. The ships transport a wide variety of goods, and it's rumoured that sometimes the precise manner of the goods being shipped is not delved into too deeply, nor questions asked as to why shippers might wish cargoes dropping off outside official destinations.
  • Remeka Abantiir, the owner and madame of Magnimar's most exclusive brother, the House of Welcome, has reputedly been hiring people to carry out strange tasks for her. It's said that she's been trying to dig up evidence of a conspiracy acting against her and has been paying spies to infiltrate the households of the wealthiest and most powerful people in the city.
  • Remeria Callinova, the head of the Varisian Council, has been attempting to convince the Shoanti to cooperate and respect the city folk, and the city folk that forcing the Shoanti out of Magnimar may not be in the city's best interests. Rumour is that she's getting annoyed with the intransigency of both sides, and is going to take more drastic steps.
  • Small rockfalls frequently tumble from the face of the Seacleft and land in Lowcleft, and it's rumoured that the number of these rockfalls has been steadily increasing over time. Some are worried that the Seacleft might perhaps be becoming unstable and in need of repair, or much of the cliff might tumble into Lowcleft.
  • Some of the archers who frequent Deadeye Lodge volunteer to help keep the streets of Keystone safe, though they often clash with the mercenaries who attempt to do the same for Calistria's church, objecting to the means used. It's rumoured that the clashes are getting more intense, as the archers are treating the mercenaries as being no different from other criminals.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
